We are looking for cast for a 16mm musical short film funded by Creative New Zealand through the Screen Innovation Production Fund, shooting late August in Auckland.

‘A teenage girl’s song of life and death.’
Anita loves to sing. One day, while she is at her lessons, her mother falls and suffers a fatal stroke.
Thinking that she played a part in her mother’s death, Anita quits singing. Her father, Patrick, performs camp musical numbers to try to cheer her up and break the silence. In a state of denial, he starts seeing hallucinations of the deceased mother, which gradually become worse and worse.
Anita realises that what her father needs most is the one thing she cannot yet bring herself to do: to let him hear the sound of her voice again.

We are looking primarily for people talented in both singing and acting and will audition regardless of ethnicity or appearance.
All of the roles are unpaid, but there will be plenty of food and a meal per shoot day. This is an opportunity to work on a refreshingly energetic film with a great crew, and at the end of it you will have a credit on a 16mm short film which will be sent to international festivals. It’ll be fun.
Auditions begin from the 1st of August.

An over-achieving student full of sincerity, especially in her singing. Classical music training preferred.

Patrick - Male lead
Males, aged 28 to 55 from New Zealand
Anita's psychotherapist father who loses his mind to grief. Classical music training, basic piano/keyboard skills and dance background are advantages.

Jenny - Female support
Females, aged 28 to 55 from New Zealand
A house-mother who dies from a stroke and haunts Patrick's mind. Classical music training preferred.

Females, aged 18 to 35 from New Zealand
Anita’s young, hip singing teacher. Basic piano/keyboard skills is an advantage.
