To be filmed throughout the North East (preliminary dates for end of October 2012).
Due to other work committments, the original female lead has had to drop out, in which case the role of the scientist Ella is available for those willing to join the cast. You must be keen and enthusiastic, as I'm sure all actresses are!
Ella is in her late 20s-mid 30s (though this is not set in stone) and a very intelligent, strong-willed individual set on returning the world to its previous state before the apocalyptic event. The chosen actress will need to be comfortable participating in fight scenes as Ella fights for her life as well as scenes of distress (when she is kidnapped and held prisoner). If you have any questions regarding the content, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
In terms of payment, it is currently unpaid with the intention of reimbursing actors and actresses upon completion and with returns from distribution (speak to director for more details).
"Remnants of a Disaster"
After 99% of humanity disappear, a female scientist who can prevent total annihilation is imprisoned by an insane politician with his own horrific plan for repopulation.
For most people it’s the end of the world, for others it’s an opportunity.
Remnants Of A Disaster is part sci-fi/horror film (28 Days Later meets Misery) and part social commentary inspired by the dumbing down and exploitation of UK society by corrupt governments in the pockets of greedy corporations.
Post apocalyptic but not another zombie gore film, the style and tone of Remnants is inspired by the idea driven cult (and obscure) sci-fi of the seventies and eighties, films like Idaho Transfer, One Boy And His Dog and Quiet Earth.
The film is the feature debut of writer/director Roger Armstrong , producers and actors Amy Telford and Den Hewitt are no strangers to micro budget feature film having shot Making Gods Bleed in 2011 for no money and producer/director of photography Alastair Cummings is an award winning film maker in his own right.
Our aim is to make a intelligent, well acted and beautifully shot character driven film that is tense and disturbing without being gratuitously violent.
The short nine minute film shot in 2011 outlines the concepts and style of Remnants. It also demonstrates what can be achieved with very little resources in a short space of time, being shot in ten hours with the only budget being £30 spent on food.
Production will be a collaborative project bringing together a number of talented North East UK and Yorkshire film makers who (like myself) have a much experience but little in the way of commercial track record.
The film is partially cast with using a mix of talented unknown and experienced actors, so far we have:
Waleed Khalid
Laura O’Donoughue
Den Hewitt
Jack Robertson
The Impact
Give 'unknown' film makers and actors a break, provide a polished showreel piece and a hopefully award winning opportunities.
Allow young (and not so young) persons to get valuable professional experience on a professional film they otherwise will not get. This won’t be slave labour, they’ll be paid and they won’t just be making tea, they’ll get valuable hands on experience.
Another aim is to make a film that will kick start a truly independent North East film industry and thus stimulate growth in local economies by showing the beauty of our region.
Ultimately we want to provide a creative, collaborative environment where people can make the films they want to make rather than those dictated by financiers.
