This drama centres around a character called Derek Jensen, a man who goes by the alias ‘Beyond-man’ and poses as a superhero a couple of days of the week; the rest of the week is spent in training in order to be capable of crime fighting.
A bit pretentious; Jensen feels that his favourite theorist Nietzche has been widely corrupted and crudely interpreted so he assigns himself the name ‘beyond-man’ , a more accurate translation from the German as a tribute and as what he sees as a true continuation of Nietzsche’s ideas. He is a character who has a strong but independent view of justice, and this drives him to believe himself to be above the law. Throughout the film he is participating in a documentary about his work on the streets of his local town. As there are no serious organized crime rackets in his small town, he has no choice but to exercise justice onto mild offenders, such as people loitering on street corners, by apprehending them with a baseball bat and tying them up outside the police station.
When not training or roaming the streets, he enjoys relaxing with his girlfriend, who has yet to find out his real identity as he insists on wearing a mask at all times. His girlfriend is perplexed by his behaviour but find him to be intriguing because of this. He also has a contact at the police station or at least, an acquaintance, who does not really know what to do about him.
The film’s style will be partly a mock-observational documentary, where the mood of the film is a black comedy. Taking some influence from The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm in terms of documentary style and awkward situations. Another influence is Burnt Face Man a web cartoon by David Firth, which tells the story of a terrible super hero.
As a professional group of filmmakers we look forward to auditioning an inspired group of actors able to improvise and feed off of each other's comedic input.
FILMING DATES: 3rd of March.
