Rottofest, Western Australia’s only ‘overseas’ festival that you don’t need a passport for, is accepting comedy short film and sketch entries from across Australia for this year’s Festival to be held on Rottnest Island from Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 September 2012.
The fourth annual Rottofest will be a weekend of film, comedy and music, which celebrates the finest comedy filmmakers and stand-up comedians from across the country, judged by a panel of leading industry experts.
“Rottofest provides a fantastic opportunity for Australia’s top comedy filmmakers to hone their skills and create some truly funny, original short films. This year we also really want to see cinematographers and directors teaming up with stand-up comedians to create some fresh, new, filmed comedy sketches. Think ‘Tim & Eric: Awesome Show, Great Job’!, ‘The Chaser’s War on Everything’ and even old school ‘Full Frontal’.” said Festival Director, Ronan Freeburn.
Australian residents can submit a short film up to 15 minutes in length or a filmed sketch up to 3 minutes in length that has been produced on or after 1 January 2011. Deadline for entries is 20 July 2012. All finalist shorts and sketches will be screened at Rottofest and will be in the running for the following cash prizes.
FUNNIEST SHORT FILM – $1,500 cash prize
FUNNIEST SKETCH – $1,000 cash prize
PEOPLE’S CHOICE FUNNIEST SKETCH – $250 cash prize
PEOPLE’S CHOICE FUNNIEST SHORT FILM – $250 cash prize
“Rottofest rocks! The best comedy festival in Australia is right here on Rottnest Island. It’s a great weekend and the best place for comedy filmmakers and stand-up comedians to join forces, hands down,” said WA filmmaking duo Henry Inglis and Aaron McCann (FUNNIEST SHORT FILM winners at Rottofest 2011).
