Having played in busy, top quality function bands in Scotland we are putting together a band in London to play weddings and corporate functions with the option to do cruises and hotel contracts abroad. We may also play the occasional pub gigs.
We are looking for a Guitarist, Keys player and Drummer to complete the line up. Preferably all applicants can sing backing vocals and it would be a definite advantage if you could sing lead.
We are based in London and aim to do the majority of our gigs in and around London but because we hope to offer our clients Ceilidh tunes and dances as an "add on" there will be possibilities of travel all over the country.
We have good contacts with agencies and have possible gigs booked in October and November and a confirmed gig for early December. This gig will be in St. Andrews. Travel and accommodation will be provided.
As we are putting together a new band, rather than continuing with an old band and adding new members, we will need to make a new press kit for the agents. This will be an audio recording, a video, photos and a bio. Because of this we will need a good amount of commitment, especially if we talk to agents about going on a ship or abroad as they like to get exactly what they see in the video.
We are, of course, completely fine with you playing in other bands, we play in a few ourselves, but a professional attitude regarding good notice for cancellations, finding a dep and good conduct at gigs is expected. We would also expect that you could play the majority of gigs we get so we can develop as a band.
We will be looking for paid gigs only, however the occasional wedding fair and “Charity” gig may have to be done, as word of mouth, giving out contact details and plugging the band directly to potential clients is, in my experience, where over half the future bookings come from.
All musicians should be:
Punctual and organised
Ability to create the right energy and stage presence for the moment
Pro standard on your instrument
Ability to learn at least 100 tunes off by heart to start with
Ability to interpret charts and read music would be advantageous
Enough commitment and loyalty to see the project through and get it off the ground
Would be great if you had a keyboard with decent Hammond sound, decent Rhodes sound and piano sound. We are looking for someone who can also play string, horn and synth parts convincingly too. There may also be duo work in cafes and bars available with our female singer.
We are looking for someone who pays attention to the details of a song but who also has good experience “jamming” on top of songs. The most important attribute we are looking for is a focus on groove. You would also need to play decent solo’s and at times be able to mimic sounds and nuances of the artists we are covering, so a good selection of effects pedals and a decent sounding amp would be an advantage. There will be lots of times to play chops too.
We are looking for someone who can anchor the band and get feet tapping and people up and dancing. We are looking for a solid groover, showing some chops would be nice on occasion too but real emphasis on being solid and grooving. If we get short contracts abroad we would maybe need to play to a click or backing tracks so ability and experience doing this might be important.
We are aiming to get this up and running after August. But after August we will be working very quickly to get this band off the ground, on the agents books and gigging. Recording audio and video in early/mid September, being gig ready by early October for possible dates in October and November.
