Joseph Running Elk knows what its like to be in pain. To live in solitude. To bear the crushing weight of a consuming guilt. In quiet moments, he wishes he was never born. Joseph Running Elk is 9 years old.
Caught in the middle of his parents’ bitter divorce, Joseph struggles to make sense of the turmoil surrounding him. His one dream is to end the constant fighting between his parents so they may return to the close family they once were. Not only, however, is Joseph’s dream destroyed by an impending divorce, but the boy soon learns he is to be sent away during the process.
Angry and inconsolable, Joseph slips into his own little world as he is driven up to his grandfather’s modest home that sits in the shadows of the majestic Sierra Mountains. Filled with cultural wisdom and humor, Joseph’s grandfather, Joe Running Elk tries to mend his grandson’s broken spirit. In an added twist, Old Joe must, also, deal with mysterious happenings that have brought both fear and danger to the people in the area.
It is not long before Joseph finds a friend. And in spite of the looming danger, the boys set out to find childhood adventure and fast money in the nearby woods. But it is neither riches nor adventure that Joseph unexpectedly discovers one day. It is a fluke of nature coupled with a growing relationship with Old Joe that begins to turn the boy’s life around forever.
The spiritual resurrection promises to finally open Joseph’s eyes and fill his heart. With his grandfather’s gentle guidance, Joseph regains new insight and respect for both his Native American heritage and his surroundings. The most essential of life lessons are about to be learned. But the journey isn’t an easy one. Leading up to the powerful conclusion, Joseph Running Elk must conquer his own personal demons, fight off damaging discrimination and survive a vengeful attempt on his life.

A Native American about 55 to 60 years old. He is Joseph’s grandfather who lives alone in the Sierra Mountains. He is about 11 years old Caucasian and street smart a Hackberry Finn type, he becomes Joseph’s best friend. And in spite of the looming danger, the boys set out to find childhood adventure and fast money in the nearby woods they set out to capture the creature in the woods and get the reword.

Males, aged 8 to 10 from the United States
He is about 8 or 9 years old he has been living in a cave in the woods after abandoned by his family. Micka is an accident of nature. We will need an actor that is either small for his age or a boy that will be able to have prosthetics don to his face and upper body.

Males, aged 35 to 40 from the United States
He is a Native American about 35 to 40 years old he is Joseph’s father. He is having a hard time coping with a nagging wife and his son’s difficulty accepting the divorce.

Females, aged 32 to 37 from the United States
She is about 35 years old pretty blond. She is unhappy with a marriage that has not worked and hoping that the divorce will change her life. She loves her son Joseph but now she hopes for some time to her self and to a new life.

He is about 19 years old Caucasian and Sawyers brother. He is the leader of the group of two other boys. He is quick tempered and has a mean streak.
