'Purgatory' a short film requires actors

Casting no. 73901 - Leeds, UK
| Casting complete: Applications now closed. |
'Purgatory' is a short live action film currently being produced at the Northern Film school

Purgatory [working title] is a short live action film currently being produced at the Northern Film School in Leeds. It is a fast paced and pulpy comedy which has its roots in Americana with very ‘cinematic’ aims, looking to pay homage to such Hollywood films as Shane Black’s neo-noir title Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Purgatory tells the story of Frank Carpel, a man who inadvertently cheats his death and as a result becomes stuck in purgatory. He receives the help of an irate Grim Reaper and together they seek a way to send Frank back and both return to their normal lives.
The film will be shot on digital with locations relatively local to the Leeds production base. Auditions are being held Saturday 26th July with shooting to commence Tuesday 26th August, although if you are interested but unable to come in on Saturday we will try to make the arrangements to see you earlier on in the week.
Minor roles are being sought alongside the three principle characters, and we’re more than welcome to accept applications from background artists too. Full credit is of course being offered along with a copy of the final film and negotiable expenses. The film has ambitions to see online and film festival distribution and will make an excellent showreel piece for actors as well as crew, standing as a short, entertaining comedy.
Due to financial constraints we would not be able to accept applications for performers in London, unless they wished to cover their own travel and accommodation, we are ideally looking for artists from northern England.
Please apply now for auditions or more information.

Frank Carpel

Males, aged 30 to 40 from the United Kingdom

A slightly eccentric but very confident man. Frank is unambitious and happy with his station in life, is very much an observer. Comparable to performances given by Robert Downey Jr. or Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead.

|
The Grim Reaper

Males, aged 18 to 99 from the United Kingdom

Supporting role. A normal guy beset by enormous power and responsibility. The Grim Repear is easily Stressed but does endeavour to get the job done. In a role where he’s very much in control and knows the situation, he uses very dry wit to entertain himself and to get through the working day on a job he’s being doing for eternity.

|
Mark Newman

Males, aged 29 to 45 from the United Kingdom

Supporting role. The character most open to what an actor brings to it, currently portrayed as ‘the best friend’ and comparable to the roles undertaken by Nick Frost.
