Plaza Youth aims to provide an opportunity for young people to learn stage and cinema craft
Plaza Youth is the resident youth theatre company for the Plaza Theatre and Super Cinema – its mission is to:
'Help create the next generation to be moved, motivated inspired and enriched by theatre and the cinema with an emphasise on team work, mutual respect and self discipline..'
We are always open to new applicants and we are open to young people from the age of 13 upwards and aims to provide an opportunity to learn stage and cinema craft whilst giving unique access to a professional working environment in Stockport's premier theatre and cinema.
Members of Plaza Youth can work on stage as actors, singers, dancers and musicians or behind the scenes on props, costume, lights, sound or stage management (technical back stage staff must be over sixteen).
Plaza Youth will be performing many types of shows both within the plaza itself and on location. It will be performing many different types of productions from musical theatre to Shakespeare, from old time music hall, (acknowledging the PLAZA's history), to cutting edge multi-media presentations (making full use of the Plaza Youth's cinematic capabilities).
Plaza Youth was started in Aug 2007 following the successful launch of the annual Plaza Summer Youth Project. It aims to be driven by the ideal of 'by young people for young people' and with the exception of the producers and the stage manager all the current production team are under the age of 25.
