    Music experience

CPM . . aka KJWyrtch, studied piano at the age of 10 in Greensboro, NC, under local, accomplished musicians in his community. He sang in every choir from elementary school to senior high school as well as St. James Presbyterian Church choir, also in Greensboro, NC.

He attended The N.C. A&T State University of Greensboro, NC (known as A&T College in 1968) matriculating in the field of Music Education (with a concentration in Piano). CPM also attended two Summer School sessions at Bennett College's Humanities Institute, performing musicals, directing plays and teaching.

Along with a few other Black Americans, he transferred to and integrated The North Carolina School for the Performing Arts in Winston Salem, NC. There he furthered his developing skills in acting and directing under specialist in his field of study; Ira Zuckerman, Bob Murray, Irene Dailey, Delores Ferraro, Agnes Lattack and Pauline Koner.

He was recommended by acclaimed costume designer Christine Giannini, , as an intern with the costuming department of the Metropolitan Opera. He did not return to the Performing Arts School due to his fascination with the New York arts scene. He continued his theatrical and musical career with prestigious theatre companies as, "The Negro Ensemble", "The Roundabout Theatre" and "LaMaMa ‘GPA’ Performing Company."

CPM was hired ‘with pay’ to sing as a baritone/tenor at Calvary Episcopal Church under the direction of the late Calvin Hampton, acclaimed organist. He continued singing in other choral ensembles throughout New York City.

In 1975 he made a pivotal move back to Greensboro, his native home and on to Washington D.C. to work with "The DC Black Repertory Theatre Co", founded by actor Robert Hooks, whom he worked with at NEC in New York. He also served as a freelance guest organist for Saint Monica's Episcopal Church while studying African dance with "The African Heritage Dancers & Drummers", founded by Melvin Deal . CPM often credits this experience, studying and dancing with the company as “the time I got my rhythm back".

As a result of his musical, theatrical and dance background, he was often hired to stage and choreograph fashion shows for local fashion designers, clubs, churches, community organizations, and businesses throughout the DC metropolitan area.

With the encouragement of his peers, in 1978 he incorporated as “The Fabric Sculpture”, a theatrical - fashion production company. He promoted local fashion designers as well as Washington, DC’s top models, to international acclaim.

Also at this time he formed a partnership with the late Ayubu Kamau, African Folk Teller. They premiered as Ayuba Kamau & Kenneth Wyrtch in “Adventures In African Folk Tales” introduced by the PG County Public Library as a two man story telling team. This soon evolved into "The Nubian Theater Company" undertaking numerous performance contracts throughout Washington DC, Baltimore, and Virginia.

He returned to The Metropolitan Opera as a wardrobe coordinator. He joined IATSE Local 764 Wardrobe Union and worked with Broadway, video and television Productions and continues with this work today.

During this phase of his career, he decided to return to his early ‘musical’ roots, and joined The Mother Zion AME Zion Church choir as a baritone, under the direction of the late Dr. Solomon Herriot. He was mentored and encouraged by Dr. Herriot to further his knowledge of the pipe organ.

CPM decided to study the basics of songwriting at "The Songwriters Guild of America", (New York Chapter) and joined the Guild’s Ranks of Composers and Lyricists.

He is presently composing and arranging music for commercial and musical projects in New York.
