Interview with International Casting Director Lilly Dawson

StarNow: Melbourne based, International Casting Director LILLY DAWSON and one of LA’s premier Acting Coaches MARGIE HABER have assembled an exceptional team of industry guests to host a “HOLLYWOOD IMMERSIVE “workshop for students aged 13 – 19. Having successfully held the first workshop, we got in touch with Lilly to find out more about it. You have just completed your 1st Holly wood Immersive, can you tell us a bit about what this involved for the students?
Lilly:Well we start with an initial chat to gauge interest and make sure the student is passionate and truly focused on acting. I then view resumes and show reels if available and then we line up auditions. I will send a script out and we audition either in Melbourne, or for those students that are interstate via Skype or preferably an audition sent to me via You Send It, Vimeo or a DVD.

StarNow:How did you and Margie meet and what make you decide to take to start this initiative?
Lilly: I first made contact with Margie at the beginning of the year – I had heard of her and knew of her outstanding reputation. I thought to myself this is the person I want to align with and to help act as a platform to offer outstanding education to young Australian and New Zealand Actors.

StarNow:Apart from yourself and Margie who else did you have teaching?
Lilly: We had Steve Memel who is a voiceand performance coach he was amazing and very inspirational. Steve was the voice coach for Alvin and The Chipmunks and has tutored the likes of Maroon 5 and Drew Barrymore to name a few. We had Tim Bagley for Improvisation. Tim is on Monk and Will and Grace (one of our students got so excited he ran up to Tim on the first morning and hugged him – it was very funny)!! We had Paul Ruddy - Casting Director. Linda Henrie a teen manager and Mother of David Henrie from Wizards of Waverly place spoke, Zak Barnett, and Eden Bernady taught and Phil Brock from Studio Talent Group also came in. The line up was awesome and every day was someone new. Also Mark Steven Johnson dropped in – Mark directed, Ghostrider, Daredevile and recently When in Rome. His insight from a Directors perspective was outstanding.
