Agent

I'm looking for a new agent to represent my Duo Maclaine Colston & Saul Rose. Check us out on www.myspace.com

Reality TV experience

Appearances on local TV, Pebble Mill, Summer in the City and VH1.

Various sessions for composers of incidental music for TV, such as The National Geographic Channel & most notably the soundtrack & title sequence for David Attenborough's The Private Life of Plants by Richard Grassby Lewis.

Music experience

It all got started when I formed a duo with fellow hammered dulcimer player Jim Couza in 1987. We released the album "Jubilee" on Folksound Records & appeared on the Andy Kershaw Show on Radio 1. I went on to reach the finals of the Young Tradition Award in 1989, 1991 & 1993 which was broadcast live on Radio 2 & lead to further Radio appearances.

My second duo Cythara with Celtic harpist Jenny Crook recorded a track for Evolving Tradition 1 on Mrs Casey Records; the albums "Cythara" and "Pluckin' Hammered" followed in 1995 on KRL's Lochshore label. I co-formed Epona which went on to release an album with Nancy Kerr in 1996, then joined Kings of Calicutt with the Mercury Prize nominee Eliza Carthy to record a track for Evolving Tradition 2. We released "Eliza Carthy & the Kings of Callicut" on Topic Records in 1997 which won Virgin Megastores album of the month. Shortly after I became a member of the folk rock band Pressgang & we released the album "Dancing in Our Dreams" in 2000 where I played Drums as well as Dulcimer.

Along the way I've toured all over the U.K & Europe playing at Folk clubs, Arts Centres & such Festivals as Folkest (Italy), Dranouter (Belgium), Cropredy, Sidmouth, Cambridge and Glastonbury (U.K). I've recorded sessions with numerous artists & composers such as Mercury Prize nominee Waterson Carthy on "Common tongue" topic Records; Richard Grassby Lewis' soundtrack for David Attenborough's The Private Life of Plants, which won a George Foster Peabody Award in television.

Most recently I've appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall performing the Oscar winning score to The Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore. I produced & engineered my father Mark Colgan's album "Begone Dull Care" & continue to do session work while looking forward to recording an album with my duo Maclaine Colston & Saul Rose (myspace.com/maclainecolstonsaulrose).

Magazine experience

    CYTHARA "Cythara" KRL CDLDL 1245
~About as pretty a debut recording as any folk group ever came up with~ Bruce Eder, ALL MUSIC GUIDE.

CYTHARA "Pluckin' Hammered" KRL CDLDL 1253
~The playing herein is assured, mature & devastatingly skillful~ Alan Rose, THE LIVING TRADITION.

PRESSGANG "Dancing in our Dreams" VOX POP 025
~The spellbinding interplay between electric guitar, dulcimer & double-bass on 'Blow The Candle Out' is but one instance of how the potentially tricky instrumental balance is always perfectly realised, yet with loads of presence~ David Kidman, TRADITIONAL MUSIC MAKER.

ELIZA CARTHY & THE KINGS OF CALICUTT "Eliza Carthy & the Kings of Calicutt" TOPIC TSCD89
~This is a very fine record that gets better with each listening. We "oldies" worry about the future of folk music but talent of this quality will ensure that it continues and hopefully will draw young people into the music~ Nick Caffrey, THE LIVING TRADITION.
