Matt started playing the drums at five years old. Shortly after this he began performing live with different bands and was soon winning various talent competitions across the country. Throughout his primary and secondary school years Matt performed extensively across England from Norfolk to Cornwall. He appeared at the Millennium Dome at age 10 and on the prime time, BBC1 television programme Blue Peter a year later. As well as appearing at these notable venues Matt played over 250 gigs in pubs and clubs before his 16th birthday. While in secondary school Matt started teaching drums and currently continues to teach privately and has successfully tutored students though over 65 grades.
Matt left school at 16 with 10 A*-C GCSEs and enrolled on to Drumtech's one year full time performance diploma course which he graduated from receiving a special achievement award from the Zildjian cymbal company. At 17 Matt enrolled onto the 3 year degree course at the London College of Music where he studied with teachers such as Darryn Farrugia, Elliott Henshaw, Erik Stams and Hadyn Callow. At 20 Matt received first class honours at B.Mus degree level. Following this Matt received a scholarship to continue his studies at the London College of Music and so went on to complete a Masters degree in music performance M.Mus which he passed with merit in the autumn of 2011.
While at university Matt was kept busy with his studies but continued to play live whenever possible. In addition to his university performances at venues such as the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire he also played many other shows including a two week stint of the musical Broke Britannia at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as a week long stint of Fame in regional theatre.
Matt has played on a variety of different session recording projects for artists of a range of musical styles. The resultant recordings have gone on to be released in various different formats including Singles, EPs and Albums in various countries around the world.
Matt is now 23 and working as a professional musician. Since finishing his masters degree Matt has been busy performing nationally and internationally in a variety of performance situations. Matt is currently performing with an acclaimed resident band where he backs team shows and visiting cabarets which include well known comedians, singers and multi-intrumentalists. He has also played with various household names such as the chart topping 60s band The Bachelors and Jane Beaumont formerly a member of the 'Stutz Bear Cats' to name but a few. This is in addition to playing band sets six nights a week in a four star hotel. Whenever possible Matt is busy performing in a variety of other bands/acts and theatre projects which have included two separate runs of The Little Shop of Horrors.
Matt has been studying for almost three years with acclaimed drummer and drum teacher Bob Armstrong and continues to learn under his stewardship. Matt is comfortable playing all styles of music, has the ability to play to click and is a highly competent sight reader. This is often proven with Matt recently backing an evening showcase of a variety of professional performers showcasing to a number of agents who were booking acts to perform around the world for various different venues including cruise ships, foreign hotels and outdoor events. This was all done on the day with little or no prior rehearsal.
