| Training began at 7 with classical violin and later at Uni with jazz violin, classical piano, harmony and arrangement. For me, Jazz improvisation was freedom to create, classical was too structured.
But music is creation structured. Imposed for identity, mood, repeatability. Ironically, pure creativity loses power to hard structure. This watershed of wisdom about the creative process illuminates every journey I begin. If creativity's enemy is structure, uninhibited flow is the source of what's about to become new.
Life's act of creating the next moment seems no different from improvising music. All creativity is faith set in motion over stationary ideas. Stepping further away from the familiar into the mysterious is inevitable, obvious, experiential necessity. | |
