I have played the piano since I was 11 and I obtained a grade 6 in performance and grade 5 in theory. I have played a number of concerts as part of the examination process and GCSE level. I used my skills where appropriate in my actor training, mostly in musical accompaniment. I have accompanied a colleague who is a professional singer at celebratory events. I can improvise on the harmonica to a basic standard.
My singing experience is mostly with choirs in both 4-part and 2-part harmony arrangements, singing both alto and mezzo ranges with some solos. I went on a tour to Venice, Italy in 2008 where I sang in the San Giovanni and Paolo Basilica, St. Mark's Basilica, St. Mark's Square and the amphitheatre in Verona. We also performed at the Derby Arts Festival a number of times and gained 'Outstanding', as well as performing in competition for BBC Choir of the Year where we reached the semi-finals. We performed annually at the Crooked Spire church and The Winding Wheel theatre in Chesterfield, where on a number of occasions I sang duets.
I have performed at local open mic nights with fellow singers and musicians and at celebratory events in styles ranging from folk to blues to jazz. I also recorded the song 'Roxy' from Chicago for my performance in 'The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui', and sang in a range of musical skits which accompanied 'Attempts on Her Life'.
