I the founder and choreographer at Emily Charlotte Dance Company. I am a confident and experienced teacher of contemporary dance and contemporary choreography. I can also teach children’s musical theatre dance and children’s ballet.
I believe dance is an integral part of the school curriculum and I pride myself on being able to create dance experiences for children that can support their overall learning by integrating subjects such as Maths, English and Science into my classes.

As a choreographer, I create intense, visceral and emotive work that explores the complexities of the human condition. Currently my interest is in crossing the boundaries between contemporary dance and other art forms such as visual art, music and poetry.
My work, Loneliness is Contagious (2013) was selected to tour with 3Fall Dance Company and was performed in many venues across the UK, including Pavilion Dance South West, amongst works by Lila Dance, Retina Dance Company and Ceyda Tanc Dance.

Teaching Experience

Future work:

Chantry Community Primary School, Bexhill : March 2016

I have been commissioned to teach Year 4 boy’s dance workshops over a five day period. The workshops will focus on integrating their current Key Stage 2 curriculum into dance classes and creative exercises to aid their learning and engagement in all subjects. There will also be an emphasis on team work, confidence building and nurturing their individuality.

Ongoing work:

Varndean Secondary School, Brighton
Reference: Helen Macdonald, Dance Teacher - helenmacdonald@varndean.co.uk

I have taught dance technique and creative sessions over Varndean School’s annual ‘enrichment week’ for three consecutive years.

My technique classes cover Ballet exercises, Release, Cunningham and Emily Charlotte Dance Company repertoire. I create exciting and dynamic phrases that encourage correct dance technique in a fun and unintimidating environment.

I also lead ‘choreographic laboratory’ workshops that nurture the student’s artistic voices. The workshops provide students with the opportunity to consider an idea for choreography in depth. The lab is a space free of judgement to explore, discover and play with an idea supported by guidance and mentoring. Students are lead through task based choreographic explorations covering multiple areas of the creative process.
