I first started playing bass guitar in pubs and clubs around Kent and London with my band, Starclub (who signed to Island Records in 1990) and also sitting in with local musicians, playing mainly rock n roll and blues. The first releases I played on were by American bluesmen Carey Bell and Larry Johnson.
Starclub released their eponymous debut in 1993 and toured the U.K. and U.S. I was also the main backing vocalist in this harmonic Beatles influenced band. There was a funky feel to a lot of my playing on this album as well as the melodic pop style of a lot of the songs.
At this time I did sessions with Robert Plant (vocals), a Donna Summer remix (bass) and Oleta Adams (bass).
The band split and shortly afterwards I hooked up with Louis Eliot who was starting a new band which would become Rialto . Again I played bass and sang B.V.s and also played some trumpet on their first album, Rialto (1998). The band achieved some chart success and I played all the major festivals ( Glastonbury, V. Reading etc) as well as touring extensively in the U.K. , Europe and S.E.Asia. I also recorded the second album ( bass and b.v's)
I then engineered Louis Eliot's solo album 'The Long Way Round', as well as playing bass, trumpet and b.v's.
I also played on several tracks on 'Mountain Rescue' by The General Store. These last two recordings demonstrate a more country feel.
I had also been writing songs with longtime friend Peter Wolfe, one of which 'For Lovers' was recorded by our band The Side Effects and sung by Pete Doherty. This reached the top ten in 2004. Again played bass on this. A couple more releases followed and some touring.
I took a break and pursued some other interests (studied audio post production) but over the last couple of years I have been in the studio, writing and producing and I've been studying Audio and Music Production at Liverpool John Moores University. I I produced Young Man by American soul singer Franke Pharoah which he released in 2018 on the Soul Deep EP. I play small gigs in Liverpool on bass and sometimes as a solo singer/guitarist or with backing tracks (swing)
I am a versatile player and I can play many different styles if required and have excellent ability on backing vocals, on stage and in the studio.
