In this unauthorized Star Trek parody, Captain Picard and Data present a ridiculous comedy adaptation of the iconic film The Wrath of Khan. Written for Trekkies and Broadway fans alike, Khan!!! is equal parts snarky, slapstick, and heartfelt. Come for the Vulcan tap dancing, stay for the mutant space chickens!

"Khan!!!" has had 3 developmental readings in Philadephia, Cincinnati, and New York City. It will be presented as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

Seeking a diverse cast of NON-UNION, PHILADELPHIA AREA musical theatre actors.

We will also hold a crowdfunding campaign; one of the stretch goals is more money for actors.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Evening performances September 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th. Matinee Sunday Sept 15. Rehearsals begin in mid-August. As it is a reading, rehearsal will be lighter than a full production. Rehearsal venue: TBD; Center City or nearby area. Performance Venue: Poplar area.

Job payment

Fixed price of $250

Kirk

Captain James T. Kirk has now become Admiral Kirk. He's 50, and he's lost his mojo. Actor will speak and sing in a subtle William Shatner voice. Over the course of the show, he goes from a dejected has-been to a seasoned hero. Baritone to tenor range, solid singing voice. Role requires good comic timing, pathos, and believable maturity no matter your actual age.

Males, aged 26 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Khan

Khan is a vengeful embittered dictator with a few screws loose. Being stranded on a desert planet for fifteen years has driven him a bit mad, so he can be funny but also scary. Characterization may land somewhere between Scar and The Joker but the ideal actor will make it his own. Baritone to tenor, solid singing voice required. He does not need to sound like Ricardo Montalban's version of Khan.

Males, aged 26 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Spock

Somewhere between a bass and a baritone, solid singing voice required. Spock is an emotionless alien, and comes off slightly haughty. Requires good diction. A study of Leonard Nimoy's portrayal of Spock is recommended. Character is around 50, but your age doesn't matter as long as you can play the maturity convincingly.

Males, aged 26 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Saavik

Mezzo or soprano. Saavik is a 20-year old cadet. She is a bookworm with high hopes of impressing her professors. Her parents were two different species so she is anxious and passionate on the inside but tries to maintain a cold, professional exterior. Requires solid singing voice. This is a very different Saavik than is portrayed in the Star Trek movies.

Females, aged 18 to 35 from Pennsylvania, USA

Picard

Non-singing role. Picard is normally a soft-spoken and pensive man. In this show, however, he's extremely stressed out which makes him a bit louder and more theatrical than his TV portrayal. Convincing Patrick Stewart impression strongly preferred.

Males, aged 26 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Data

Baritone or tenor vocal range. Must be a good singer with a "song and dance man" quality. Data is an android with no emotions, but on stage he is able to mimic human emotion in a silly, theatrical way. A study of Brent Spiner's portrayal on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is strongly recommended.

Males, aged 24 to 45 from Pennsylvania, USA

Scotty/Bones

Alto or mezzo range. We're looking for a funny female character actor for this role. Must do Scottish accent as well as an exaggerated southern impression of Doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy. Scotty is a jolly Scotsman who wears his heart on his sleeve. Bones is a crotchety old coot who tells it like it is. These characters must be caricatured to cartoonish levels.

Females, aged 24 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Uhura/Carol

Mezzo or soprano range. Woman of color strongly preferred. Uhura is a communications officer who feels she's "too old for this s**t." She's sardonic, but knows her job and does it well. Carol is a tough scientist who was also Kirk's old girlfriend and the mother of his long-lost son. This track requires both a good sense of humor and a sense of strength.

Females, aged 24 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

David/Preston/Joachim

Baritone or tenor. Must be funny and versatile. David is James T. Kirk's long-lost son and speaks in an exaggerated William Shatner-style voice. Preston is a ridiculous "Tiny Tim" type character and speaks in a high childlike cockney accent. Joachim is Khan's timid sidekick. This role will require a bold character actor with distinct characterizations and a great sense of comic timing.

Males, aged 22 to 45 from Pennsylvania, USA

Chekov/Sulu/Grant

Baritone or bari-tenor. Person of color strongly preferred. Russian accent required. Chekov is a cartoonish Russian buffoon who tries his best. Sulu is a sassy and occasionally catty take on George Takei; a good impression of George Takei will go a long way. Grant is a gruff and grumpy admiral who has a bone to pick with Captain Picard. These are colorful, broad characters.

Males, aged 24 to 60 from Pennsylvania, USA

Terrell/Chicken/Chorus

Flexible range from alto to soprano. Terrell is a male space captain who takes his job very seriously and at one point in the show has to fight intensely against mind control. The chicken is a human-sized mutant chicken who ends up being a backup singer in Act II. Role requires sight-reading and will be part of the vocal ensemble.

Females, aged 22 to 50 from Pennsylvania, USA

Ambassador/Chicken/Chorus

Flexible singing range from alto to soprano. The Ambassador is a British-sounding and aristocratic bon vivant. She loves the theatre and may well own opera glasses. The chicken is a human-sized mutant chicken who ends up being a backup singer in Act II. Role requires sight-reading and will be part of the vocal ensemble.

Females, aged 22 to 50 from Pennsylvania, USA

Cadet/Chicken/Chorus

Baritone or tenor. Cadet is a young anxious student who's scared to go into a space battle for the first time. The chicken is a human-sized mutant chicken who ends up being a backup singer in Act II. Role requires sight-reading and will be part of the vocal ensemble.

Males, aged 22 to 40 from Pennsylvania, USA

Stage Direction Reader/Chorus

Flexible singing range, alto, mezzo, or soprano. Because this is a staged reading, the reader of the stage directions is very much an active character in the storytelling. Good diction and a handle on tongue twisters is a must. Role requires sight-reading because it is part of the vocal ensemble.
