British Touring Shakespeare are constantly looking for ways to make classical performance relevant in the 21st century, and Guerilla Shakespeare is a way to make these plays that have been performed so often through the years continue to be a vital, exciting and above all unpredictable creative force for modern audiences. This is real community theatre that is intended to make Shakespeare plays accessible to anyone to watch or perform, and we’re thrilled with the response that we have had so far from the professional acting community, the general public and the wonderful venues that we’ve been staging these events at.
Previous events have included Henry V at the Wallace Collection as part of the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Troilus and Cressida at the British Museum as part of their special exhibition Shakespeare: Staging The World, and Romeo and Juliet at the Roundhouse with their young performers programme.
Audition / Rehearsal / Production datesOn Saturday 3rd August, a cast who have just met an hour beforehand will give a completely unrehearsed performance of As You Like It at a secret location in South London. All are welcome to take part whether experienced professional classical actors or enthusiastic amateurs who have never set foot on a stage before. There are no auditions so if you would like a role just message with a picture and an idea of how much acting experience if any you have.
