Approaching the Apogee

Approaching the Apogee

'Approaching the Apogee' is an installation that explores the artificial construction of social behaviour and the processes that force us to conform to them. It will be staged in two films. The first features a family, sitting down to a normal dinner before their hedonistic desires take over. The second follows an unarmed character as they desperately tries to escape their captors who are determined to turn them into one of them.

Film 1 - Synopsis

The family say grace as they sit down to a normal dinner. They politely eat their meals in silence. Slowly, one by one, they give into their hunger and shovel food into their mouths before resorting to using their hands. The family steal food off each others plates before Mum dumps a cake on the table and they devour that instead. Once done with the cake, Mum, Dad and the unnamed character drag Brother onto the table. Dad climbs onto the table with a knife and brings it down on Brother. The Unnamed Character looks down at Brother, reaches down, and tastes the blood.

Film 2 - Synopsis

Our Unnamed Character lies still in a bath. A hand comes down and pushes them underwater. They struggle free and looks up to see 3 captors standing around them. They try to climb out of the bath but they're too weak to do so. As they nearly climbs out, the Captors drag them back into the bath and hold them down. Captor 3 cuts off their hair. The Unnamed Character slides out of the bath and collapses on the floor. When they stand, they're robotic and emotionless. They join the Captors; now one of them.
