We are new writers and composers on the musical theatre scene and we are passionate about taking our first original project ‘Once Lost’ to the Edinburgh Fringe 2020. Our past work can be seen after application.
‘Once Lost’ is a musical that follows an elderly woman living with dementia. She is unable to speak fluently or coherently but her internal thoughts and confusions are clearly expressed through the songs she sings. The musical is a series of disjointed memories she recollects and slowly pieces together whilst in her chair. The story encompasses comedy, drama and happiness amongst the reality of her condition, both within her memories and her present. The ending is bittersweet and realistic, which is not often represented as the conclusion of a musical theatre plot line. The show will be between 45-50mins and will be performed by a cast of five actors who will all sing (three female, two male).
Our aim with this show is to bring a new perspective on dementia by telling our story through song.
We are an independent writing team made up of family and friends and are relying on self funding and any additional funding we can get. We also want to raise money for dementia charities, therefore we are unable to offer payment, however we have booked a short six day run at the Fringe festival and the whole experience will be incredible for all involved. If any, profit share will be arranged between the writers/actors/tech/charities but we cannot guarantee this will be a lot of money. This is very much a passion project and we would love to find actor/singers just as passionate as us. The actors involved will also have a lot of creative freedom- we love to collaborate and bounce ideas with people. The more brains, the merrier! Looking forward to meeting you!
Original dates (subject to change due to COVID-19)Unknown as of yet - will depend on who we cast.
This job is unpaid - **Note: Actors would need to work on a voluntary, collaborative basis as this is unpaid. This Ed.Fringe show is to bring to life a passion project (not with the intention of generating profit)**
