In this project I am going for a very specific aesthetic: I am interested on moody sculptural studies of the body in motion. Rather than capturing aerial and expansive shots, I would like to use the constraints of a small studio space to focus tighter on the details, and how they capture the art of performing. Thus I am particularly interested in working with expressive performers, such as contemporary dancers, which can convey emotion through posing and body motion in a smaller space (2x2 metres approx).
My technique of choice includes large and slow black and white film cameras, as well as manual printing. Please see the attached images for an example. While these run against the norm in an usually fast-paced and dynamic shooting style such as is dance, I believe that it is precisely these constraints that will spark the best acts of creativity.
I have intentionally not restricted the profile of applicants as I aim to get as much variety as possible, but please bear in mind I am looking for experienced performers. If you are up for the challenge, I would appreciate it if you could include references of your work that we can discuss.
The styling will be discussed on a per case basis, but nudity is not required.
