It’s 15 years after the death of Mrs Hallows. Since her passing her daughter, Ida rarely visits her Father. Ida’s emotions stem from internalised fear and sadness. She translates these emotions externally through anger, frustration and anxiety.
She becomes overwhelmed with emotion easily which leads her to become emotionally numb, like her Father. She knows, on a subconscious level that her Father had something to do with her Mother’s death. Although she is filled with frustration towards her Father, she is stuck with the Father-daughter dynamic, anger and, what her Mother would have wanted. She believes her Father doesn’t deserve her love however, she is fighting that innate human instinct to love her Father.
The house feels empty and cold. Ida and her Father struggle with flashbacks and memories of the woman they lost. Their relationship is struggling as Ida and her Father do not communicate well. Ida is filled with hatred for him and he is frozen in time.
