Complex relationships, slapstick, farce, drama and pathos – it's all in this play full of great characters!

Trealaw and District Operatic Society is a Community Theatre Group. Nick, the director, always keeps the identify of next year’s play top secret until he is ready to do the big reveal. However, a nearly bankrupt group coupled with some blackmail, affairs and nepotism has Nick promising the lead role to four different people (and committing to four different shows).

Loyalties are tested, friendships and relationships questioned with lots of giggles along the way.

Trivial Pursuits is a very character driven play, they are each so so different, so lots of work needs to be put into them – that’s what acting is all about right?

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Production dates are the first two weeks of December

Job payment

Unpaid – this is a collaboration opportunity

Collaborations should create mutual benefit and are usually amateur, student or 'Time for Print' projects.

Teddy

The societies usual leading man. Extrovert, effeminate, desperate to play Curley in Oklahoma before his impending birthday, doesn’t mind stirring people up. (Age open)

Male, aged 23 to 47

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Joyce

Sister of Roz, suffered loss of confidence following a disastrous performance as the lead in the previous production of Calamity Jan (there was a printing error on the poster). Gets progressively more inebriated as the evening progresses. Flirts outrageously with all men especially Teddy. (Age open)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Mona

Society choreographer - “I create – others dance”, (yeah she is one of those!) whose aim in life is to do West Side Story and who complains constantly that it is never chosen. Straight shooter, can be aloof. (Age open)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Pearl

Society Treasurer and worry wart, organised, perfunctory . I picture a cross between a librarian and an accountant – how will you see her? (Age open)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Roz

Married to Nick, hostess of the party and lady of the house. Must be a couple with Nick and sister to Joyce. One of the hardest parts I think because it’s the ‘straightest’ – what can you do with her? (Age open)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Jessica

New to the society, pretty, definitely only out for herself, uses men to get ahead – married or not. (Age open, preferably younger than Roz)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Derek

Married to, but separated from, Deidre and in a depressed and suicidal state. Morose and boring and really pretty pathetic, although a very successful businessman. (Age open)

Male, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Nick

Societies’ business manager/director who decides which show is performed and who plays which part. Married to Roz. Bit of a cad. Likes holding the power of the society because I don’t think he has any anywhere else (Age open)

Male, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Deidre

Estranged wife of Derek. Has been set up by her mother on a date with Eddie, who she hates. Not sure if she really wanted to leave Derek or if she just tested him and it went too far. (Age open)

Female, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.

Eddie

Weird! TV addict, bore, no sense of humour bit of a nutcase. (Age open)

Male, aged 18 and over

Applications closed 22 September 2020.
