"Not in Our Backyard" is an original, thought provoking musical of Love, Lies and Land-rights set in WA written by writer and poet Dr Chris Harlow and composed by musician & composer James Perkins
It will be produced at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 12 June 2021.
Rehearsals have already begun on Tuesdays 7-9pm at Halls Head College, 1 Casuarina Drive, Halls Head.
It will be accompanied by a small orchestra.
The show is fully casted with the exception of leading lady Rachel, an environmentalist and strong supporter of Aboriginal Land-rights and her brother Shane who has been unemployed for some time.
The Plot:
Pantopia Industries, a global mining company proposes to build a Radioactive Waste Storage Facility in the local environs. Rachel is against this project on environmental grounds and the risk to the health of the local community but her Shane brother is for the project because he sees it as an opportunity for employment and financial security. The conflict between brother & sister is complicated when Rachel falls in love with Tony, Pantopia's project manager. Add to this plot Alex, the unscrupulous CEO of Pantopia, his charming but manipulative PA Su-Lyn, Norm, a corrupt politician, a natural disaster and beautiful music and you are set for a wonderful theatrical experience.
