Casting for lead and support roles for short film She Wore Blue.

She Wore Blue is a punch-in-the-guts yet hopeful short drama, that explores fragmented memory and one woman’s experience of overcoming trauma. The film dances between two timelines; a volatile fifteen-year-old Elsie who decides to keep her sexual assault a secret and present-day Elsie, a young woman, struggling with true intimacy in a new relationship. Through rapid eye movement therapy, she reclaims her body and rewrites her story. Returning to her childhood home, she breaks her silence. Her relationship with her sister is healed. Elsie is able to stop running and embrace her present.

VCA are partnering with MIFF in 2021 and as such this film will have its graduation screening at the Melbourne International Film Festival. It also intended to circulate in a vast number of other renowned short film festivals.

There are a number of professionals working on this film. The Director is a professional actor who graduated from WAAPA in 2017 and is currently in her final year of the VCA Masters of Film and Television. The DoP has had work in many festivals including this years Flickerfest and St Kilda Film festival. The composer, who will be writing an original score for this film, has work currently showing in the New York movie awards, Colver city, St Kilda fest, Flickerfest, Peninsula, Melbourne Lift Off and Reale film festival.

We believe our combined expertise will result in a high quality film with an important and timely story to tell.

This film deals with themes of sexual assault. However it is never depicted on screen.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

The production dates are the 1st till the 7th of September.

Unpaid – this is a collaboration opportunity - Student Film

Expenses paid - travel costs, accomodation if required, catering will be provided

Collaborations should create mutual benefit and are usually amateur, student or 'Time for Print' projects.


Elsie as a young girl is grappling with her experience of sexual assault. She is a bright, kind and fiercely loyal type. However due to her recent experience she is brimming with rage. She idolises her older sister Yasmin. As an adult, Elsie is a relatively successful musician. Her fashion walks a fine line between bohemian and grunge. She’s pretty in an effortless kind of way. Underneath her cool, tough exterior Elsie remains a caring country girl at heart.

Yasmin in her youth was a beautiful bohemian artist. She went to a fancy art school and between drinking red wine and listening to records with friends, managed to get a bachelor degree in fine art. As a grown up she's living the life of a corporate. She envies her sister Elsie's bravery in pursuing music as a career. As the older sister she has always felt the need to set an example and appease their mother Joanne.

Noah is a rugged, down to earth, creative type. He lives in the city throughout the week but his weekends are spent out exploring the great outdoors. He believes there's not a problem in the world you can't solve after a good rock climb. He has a real soft spot for Elsie. Although they haven't been dating for long something in his gut tells him she might be the one. He's kind, a little rough around the edges and very patient.

Joanne is Elsie and Yasmin's mother. She's a country woman with strong morals. She expects the best for her children. Until recently she assumed parents had exaggerated the drama of raising teenage girls. Joanne gets a real surprise when Elsie starts acting out, disrupting the perfect country life they had been living.

Viti's character is integral to the film. She is Elsie's long time therapist. Together they work through Elsie's trauma. Viti is trained to conduct EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapy. Viti is warm and generous. She's one of those people who feel fully present when you are speaking to her. Something about her makes you feel safe.
