I am looking for a producer to join my debut short film a comedy about a teenager in hospital trying to be popular.
This project has a small budget attached thanks to some micro grant funding as well as insurance, some mentoring and some supports from various places. The hope is that the film will be shown at festivals such as MIFF and HRAFF in 2022 and be authentic, funny, stereotype breaking representation for young people living with disability and a new viewpoint for able-bodied people.
The short film is still being written, and will be directed by and co-produced by myself. (I absolutely don’t want you to feel like you have to take all of the producing tasks on!) In terms of media, have a degree in screen media, experience working on sets and experience as a corporate videographer. From a disability perspective, I have lived experience of mental health challenges and moderate-high physical disability. I have worked in various youth disability organisations over the past 5 years.
A big part of this film is the authentic voice of disabled people to that, our lead character will be a young person with lived experience of disability (not yet cast) and where I can I would love to give these roles to other (young) people with disability but this is absolutely not a requirement.
The tasks will be stuff like I’ve decided that the shoot will be 4 days in November so it’d be those 4 days (we can work it out so it suits with our schedule ) plus a casting day those are the days I’d need you to attend. Ideally if you can make other stuff like the location scout then great but not a dealbreaker!
Other stuff would be like helping me post the casting stuff, book rentals, work with contacts I’ve arranged to get in-kind support from, emails, schedules, paying people, organising catering, helping write more funding applications etc. (again happy to help with all of this and do most of it online) You’d probably also play an assistant director role on set and get credit for that too during the shoot your role would be keeping all the logistical stuff organised and making sure we get everything and finish on time.
It sounds like a lot I know but it all doesn’t all have to be done right away. I have budgeted around $800 for this role but may be able to go up a little bit depending on more external funding or in-kind supports.
Casting/rehearsals/meetings will be in metro melbourne right near flinders st. Station or Fitzroy at united co., filming will most likely be at Victoria University Sunshine Campus.
Audition / Rehearsal / Production datesShooting end of November or early December. Casting by end of September.
Payment TBC - Approximately $800
Expenses paid - I can’t pay for transport, accomodations but I have budgeted for catering as well as coffees and some small budget for incidentals like fuel during shoot days
A producer whose keen to work collaboratively but also is great with timelines (not my strong point!) absolutely open to beginners, people with disability, young people or anyone passionate about authentic, funny disability representation in Australian Media.
Anyone, aged 18 and over
Applications closed 25 July 2021.
