Witness is a TV crime drama set entirely within an interrogation room. A team of detectives follow the investigation from a conversation with an innocent bystander to a meeting with the killer.

The show will be produced by a crew of third year film and TVstudents at The University of York. There will be a screening of the project at the Holbeck Cinema on campus. We are also planning to show the film at the Luma Film Festival.

We will shoot three episodes over 3 days. Each episode is 25 minutes long. The shoot will take place between the 14th-18th of March.

Roles:
-2 detectives
-1 police officer
-9 witnesses

This is a unique opportunity because you will get to experience shooting live drama in a TV studio! It is also a great chance to expand your acting abilities by working with others to create a dramatic and engaging story within the four walls of the interrogation room.

Detective Jean Harrow

As chief detective, Jean is responsible for leading the investigation. She is a maternal figure and uses a gentle but professional approach in the interviews. She tends to enter the interviews without any pre-conceptions, following the evidence provided by the witnesses rather than being led by prejudice. She is disinterested in the ‘glamour’ of her job and the ‘thrills’ of the crimes she encounters. Instead she is down to Earth and focussed on finding the truth.

DC Michael Musa

Michael has just been promoted the DC and this is his first job. He is ambitious and determined to prove himself by solving the case to his boos Jean, but most importantly to himself. His inexperience shows in the interrogation room - he tends to jump the gun and takes a far more accusatory approach in the interviews. He allows himself to be led by his instincts (which are sometimes wrong). He is polite to his colleagues but tends to be single-minded and focussed on his work.

PC Rosa Williams

Rosa is a police officer but is desperate to be promoted to a DC. She is close to Jean and works hard to earn her praise and respect. In her efforts to succeed in her career she has become a workaholic and is always the first person to arrive at the station (and the last person to leave). Whilst observing the interrogation she works hard to research important information to make connections between the different witnesses.
