Short film outline:

"The Dinner" is a short arthouse film shot on 16mm film. Predominantly set in industrial surroundings, the story takes place in a dystopian future.

The main character, Walter, is a weathered factory worker in his late 50s. Since his youth, Walter has worked at a tuna cannery. Through all the years of work at the cannery, it seems that it is not just the tuna he has packed into a tin can, but also himself.

The story takes place during a crisis and high levels of unemployment caused by the pandemic and bush fires. Unable to afford to rent an apartment, Walter is forced to live in an abandoned theatre warehouse converted into an informal sharehouse. Walter’s neighbours are a dozen of creative people who have lost their jobs: mostly artists, musicians and designers. Having dreamt of a comfortable personal space, Walter initially avoided his neighbours. Though, deep down, he envies the fact that, despite experiencing similar hardships, they look much happier than him.
