We are searching for a talented composer to create the score for a Martial Arts Comedy short film. The film takes place within a fictional Chinese Triad gang, and is ambiguously set in China round the 1940's. The style is very much inspired by classic Hong Kong martial arts cinema, and the works of Steven Chow, such as 'Kung Fu Hustle', whilst incorporating fight choreography similar to Jackie Chan's style of mixing humour and action in longer wide shots. Here is a general synopsis:
The story begins when the son of an infamous Triad leader murders his own father in order to take over the gang, however the only thing stopping him from total domination is his drunken, foul-mouthed sister who refuses to sit back and watch him destroy their family legacy any longer. Although vowing to never take a life, she desperately struggles to find an alternative solution that does not result in one of them dying by the other's hand.

Production wrapped filming near the end of May and is now in the later stages of the edit, meaning we are able to provide a full copy of the short film to work from, however we are still willing to tweak the edit to better fit with the soundtrack if need be. This was a very ambitious final major graduation project for students at Middlesex University, which is now the top University in England for Film production. Currently the total run time is 22 minutes (including credits), and features a variety of action and dialogue scenes. We would be happy to negotiate a price for the scoring, however please keep in mind this is a self funded student project.

In terms of composition style, we are looking for a mix of western and eastern (specifically Chinese) sounding instruments. As the two main characters represent the different cultures, the soundtrack can reflect this contrast in the instrumentation. We'd like to emphasise the use of war/Taiko drumming, especially for the fights and build up, as the gang members use drumming batons as weapons.

If this is a project you may be interested in, please get in touch and we would be happy to answer any questions and provide more details of the project.
