Actors Required for a Short Film 'The Figure'
Oscar (which is the main character) wakes up in a hilly field at night. There appears to be nothing else around him and he panics as he hears the sound of movement. Oscar calls out but his voice is echoey and nobody responds. He hears a heartbeat sound (that will be used throughout the film as a motif for the Figure) and runs to escape whatever is following him.
Throughout the film, we will see the Figure only in blurred, partial shots.
Oscar reaches a lone house in this field and the lights turn on. Oscar’s mother emerges from the front door and calls him inside so he follows, grateful for a sanctuary.
Oscar believes himself to be safe and goes upstairs as his mother goes to make him a hot drink. As they are talking, Oscar’s mother stops replying and Oscar hears the heartbeat sound again. He goes to a window and sees the shaded Figure looking up at him.
Panicking, Oscar runs down the stairs, seeing the shadow of the Figure outside the front door. Oscar runs out of the back door only to find himself in an empty street with houses either side. He tries calling for help only to discover he cannot make any noise. As the heartbeat increases in volume, Oscar runs down the street, frantically knocking on doors with no response until the Figure catches them. Oscar wakes up in his bedroom, scared but relieved to be out of what was only a dream. He reaches for a glass on his bedside table to see that it is empty so he gets out of bed and leaves the room. As he steps into the hallway, his body freezes and the heartbeat sound can be heard again. He is still in a dream. He wakes up in his bedroom again, terrified but finally out of the dream. His mother runs in, having heard him call out in his sleep. She comforts him but then we see Oscar’s father standing in the doorway with a sinister expression (maybe he says something – I’ve not decided). We realise the Figure of Oscar’s dreams is a manifestation of his father’s anger towards him.
