Specs:

We’ve got an exciting upcoming online advertising campaign for an emerging economy airline.

We’ve all experienced that less than genuine treatment on a flight. This campaign lightheartedly juxtaposes the genuine Canadian treatment you’ll receive from Air Transat through observing the power of smiles and welcomes, with the not so-genuine friendliness you might get elsewhere.

What we're after:

Our actors will have real and characterful faces; not stunningly beautiful, nor distractingly unattractive. Slightly non-symmetrical faces with interesting features will always attract attention in the usual sea of beautiful people that always populate the ad break.

The ‘I really don’t care’ smile

An overly done up flight attendant, with obvious slightly-too-orange make-up and too-perfect brows. There’s a sneer about everything they do – this comes from believing that they’re above everyone. They also has a knack of looking through you, as if distracted by something in the distance.

Their smile says:
“I’m way too good to be doing this – and I don’t care if you know it!”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK

The Angry Smile

They smiles through gritted teeth, with anger simmering in their eyes. They’ve got something of a chip on their shoulder; they really did get out of bed on the wrong side this morning.

Their smile says:
“I’d really rather be anywhere than here helping you.”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK

The Down-the-nose smile

With an austere expression and an arched brow, they can’t help but be condescending to everyone. They’ve been doing the job for slightly too long and now feels like they’ve seen it all. At the older end of the spectrum, they’re something quite cold and impenetrable about them. Their haircut is scraped back and is as severe. Their mouth might be smiling, but her eyes lack expression.

Their smile says:
“Oh - you think I’m here for your pleasure. You’re very wrong. Darling.”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK

The Blink-and you’ll miss it smile

This flight attendant is seriously missing the sincerity gene. They’re so very busy, but they might deign to give you one of their trademark micro-smiles, if you’re lucky.

Their smile says:
“Yeah, my training tells me I’m meant to flash you a smile but I really haven’t got time right now… There – will that do?”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK

The No Frills smile

There’s a younger flight attendant - just fresh out of school. They might still even have a few adolescent spots. They’re working as a steward for a budget airline such as Ryanair. They can’t muster up the enthusiasm to even force a smile.

Their ‘smile’ says:
“When you’re paid this badly, why bother?”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK

The Winning Smile

This individual has a warm, genuine smile that spreads slowly across their whole face, reaching right up to the eyes. It’s broad and welcoming: a warm and lingering smile that makes you instantly feel at ease. You feel it’s from the heart, that this individual genuinely loves their job and that they truly care about the needs of the customers they’re serving.

Their smile says:
“It’s so rewarding to be able to help people”

Anyone, aged 25 to 45 from London, UK
