Using music to rehabilitate prisoners and ex-prisoners
1 day per week, up to £23,000 (pro rata)
Changing Tunes Midlands, a Christian-based charity, is recruiting two new Musician-in-Residences for our work in HMP Hewell or HMP Stafford and out in the local community. You will deliver two music sessions per day, each week, in the prison, teaching & rehearsing groups of prisoners. You will also deliver our post-release programme supported by other musicians, which consists of one-to-one mentoring, performances and monthly group sessions conducted in the community.
You will need to be a skilled and confident musician on at least two instruments, and be able to teach (to basic level) the guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and singing. Most of the work involves guitar tuition and band rehearsal, but other styles and instruments are also valuable. Above all, applicants must be confident, flexible and comfortable with many musical styles.
The work also involves organising occasional concerts in prison, concerts for ex-prisoners in local churches, and performing with prisoners at prison chaplaincy services. No experience working in the prison system is required - full training will be given. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and/or a CTC check (the organisation’s policy on recruitment of ex-offenders will be sent to all applicants).
Please consider your geographical location for travel to and from the Prison before applying.
Deadline for applications is the 8th of February 2019.
Changing Tunes Midlands is linked to Changing Tunes South West. This Job relates to Changing Tunes Midlands only and is based in the West Midlands region.
