The young artist

Artistic & sensitive as opposed to his stoic, working-class father. Enjoys riding his bike around the neighborhood for hours, scribbling on his hands and getting lost in his own head. Doesn't have many friends. Tries to seek approval from an angry, alcoholic father who is consistently pushing him to be more 'masculine' and projecting onto his son. Bright and happy when he's alone. Wants to enjoy life and be free; knows as long as he has to go home at the end of the day, that isn't possible.

Males, aged 12 to 17 from United Kingdom

  • Accents: UK English

The artist

Talented and sensitive but troubled as a result of a traumatic childhood. Represses most of his emotions aside from anger (lashes out and throws things like his father used to.) Functioning alcoholic. He still seeks the validation he never got from his father from art critics and fans, takes any negative review on his work personally. Pessimistic with a dry and sarcastic sense of humour. Suffers from anxiety.

Males, aged 34 to 50 from United Kingdom

  • Accents: UK English

The critic

Respected critic in the art world. Harsh but fair in his reviews/approach to critique. The artist believes he has 'sabotaged' his career through a review in which he states he believes the artist's work is 'outdated'. Empathetic and insightful, to the surprise of many people.

Anyone, aged 30 to 50 from United Kingdom

The artist's father

The stereotypical working-class, stoic, 'masculine' type of father figure. Was left to raise his son alone pretty early on. Doesn't really understand his son, tries to bond with him over the same things he and his father bonded over (football) as a result of this. Suffers from his own demons but is never one to talk about his feelings. Alcoholic, angry, abusive.
