Blackie

Paul "Blackie" Conway (our hero/anti-hero) is a Wiradjuri warrior/philosopher. Sent to prison on false charges, he is filled with hate and rage, addicted to meth, and trained for violence. He also reads philosophy (chiefly Frantz Fanon). He is out of jail, off his guts, and on the hunt for revenge on the crooked cop who put him away.

Males, aged 35 to 45 from ACT, Australia

  • Ethnicity: Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander

Rips

Rips is Kamilaroi. Physically massive and imposing, tank-like. He is a career criminal. He is happy-go-lucky, loves a drink, loves a singalong, and can play a mean guitar. He is quick to violence if necessary. He loves all drugs ("No discrimination here, bra."). He and Blackie are joined at the hip; Rips has dubbed the pair "The Black Crusaders". Would kill/die for each other.

  • Ethnicity: Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander

Carlos

Carlos is an Aussie of Spanish descent and multi-lingual (only one line of Spanish language required, coaching provided if necessary). Carlos is a scheming scumbag. He is slick and charismatic, a born opportunist. He is a compulsive liar and a motormouth. Never stops carrying on about his seemingly infinite sexual encounters with celebrities. He is a snitch and petty crook. He is on the road with Blackie and Rips, but will give them up to McWilliams in a heartbeat to save his own skin.

Males, aged 35 to 45 from ACT, Australia

  • Ethnicity: White / Caucasian, Other

Dot

Dot is the strong centre of her family. She is a professional nurse-practitioner, struggling to keep her family together against societal pressures (racism, drugs, violence). She is Blackie's cousin. She is as tough as nails and life has not whittled away her warm heart. She has buckets of love to spread around to any who might need it - no matter what kind of scumbag they are.

Females, aged 40 to 50 from ACT, Australia

  • Ethnicity: Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander

McWilliams

Police Sergeant Hunter McWilliams (our villain) is a clean-cut, upstanding, highly respected law-enforcement professional. Physically imposing and well-spoken. He sacrificed Blackie on a dodgy drugs charge to boost his own career. He is not outwardly racist like so many of his colleagues, but he chose Blackie as an act of 'pragmatic racism'; it's easier to pin a fake charge on a blackfella than on anyone else. McWilliams is strong on all fronts: physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

Males, aged 35 to 45 from ACT, Australia

  • Ethnicity: White / Caucasian

Silvia

Silvia is a single mum, living on a govt. pension. She is a rough and tough character with a highly attuned 'bullshit meter'. She has a new baby boy, Jimmy, but due to her location, education, and economic situation she has no real direction in life. She is a close friend of Dot, and will meet Blackie, Rips, and Carlos on their journey.

Females, aged 30 to 35 from ACT, Australia

  • Ethnicity: Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander, White / Caucasian

Fingers

Jackson "Fingers" Arahanga is a Kiwi bloke - Dot's husband. He is pakeha/white, but was adopted as an infant by a Maori family, hence the Maori last name. He is a little useless - no real direction in life, no solid job, smokes too much weed - but has an abundance of love and warmth for Dot and their gang of kids. He can play guitar and sing beautifully. He is deeply loved by all who know him, and Blackie is no exception (Blackie will sacrifice himself to save Fingers from a life-sentence).
