This character is a bigoted old Englishman. Stuck in his ways, he doesn't care to understand current views of an open, inclusive world. His traditional prejudice upbringing taints his view on immigration. Although he would not like to admit it, he is incredibly racist. His one love is his violin which he adores (therefore incredibly beneficial for character to play the violin, but not essential).
