Over the last ten years I have worked closely with people ranging from seven to seventy years old. Whilst studying at Drama with Music at Huddersfield University, I participated in music and drama workshops with South Asian Arts UK which involved me going into schools and assisting in sessions which sought to help pupils to engage in different cultural styles of music. I was able to contribute my skills in ‘Drama in the community’ which gave me the opportunity to organise and facilitate drama workshops for people with self-esteem and social interactive problems. Some of the people were from poor socio-economic, ethnic minority backgrounds and some had numerous behavioural and social difficulties. To help them express themselves in a positive way, I engaged them in activities that enabled them to recreate situations they faced in their everyday life including the cause of these situations, negative or positive, the prevention and the cure while assessing the progress they were making throughout the module.

Over the last ten years I have worked closely with young people ranging from seven to seventeen years old. Whilst studying at Huddersfield University, I participated in music workshops with South Asian Arts UK which involved me going into schools and assisting in lessons which sought to help pupils to engage in different cultural styles of music. I was able to contribute my skills in ‘Drama in the community’ which gave me the opportunity to organise and facilitate drama workshops for looked after young people with self-esteem and behavioural problems. Some of the young people were from poor socio-economic, ethnic minority backgrounds and some had numerous behavioural and social difficulties. To help them express themselves in a positive way, I engaged them in activities that enabled them to recreate situations they faced in their everyday life including the cause of these situations, negative or positive, the prevention and the cure while assessing the progress they were making throughout the module.
As a consequence of these opportunities I am committed to the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda and I learnt specifically how to engage with young people, how to empathise with them and encourage them to reach their full potential and work effectively with those who have behavioural problems and believe that every child deserves equal opportunities.
I have worked for the Pupil referral service bringing music and performing arts to those pupils who sought to find a creative way of expressing there emotions and currently work for a music school, teaching singing, and piano/keyboard.
