"Drama With A Difference" is one of Australia's leading, independent drama schools. Set in Melbourne, Victoria, the school runs classes for all ages and levels. It is also the launching pad of many successful Australian actors; most of the actors who were first spotted at the school were seen in one of our public performances.
Students (past and present) from the school have appeared in major and guest roles in feature films, television series, and professional theatre. Many have also gone onto train at full time drama schools, such as NIDA, VCA, The Juilliard School in New York, and in Russia. We have had students appear in London's West End, and in exceptionally well-known productions in all aspects of the Entertainment Industry. Many have gone straight from "Drama With A Difference" into the profession, as the school has been operating for a long time, and has strong connections within the industry.
At the same time, as with any drama school, we cannot make guarantees about finding paid work through our drama school. This is up to the individual, and has a great deal to do with luck. However, (unlike many schools who claim to have trained well-known actors), our website gives you a full list of the actors who began with our school, and a full list of all the productions that our students have worked on.
We can guarantee you that you will be provided with the best possible training from our experienced acting teachers; they are working professionals with a strong body of work behind them, and with critical acclaim from major Australian reviewers.
This course is a Performance / Intensive course that culminates in two shows in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It is difficult for emerging actors to stage their own productions in major theatre festivals; the costs of hiring venues, directors, lighting technicians, stage managers etc... is often prohibitive. So, although this is a paid course, the cost of the course is far less than you would ever have to pay to present yourself directly in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The course fee includes:
- Weekly classes in acting technique, where you will be given a scene (or scenes) to work on for inclusion in the show for The Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
- The application of these acting techniques to your given scene (scenes).
- The inclusion of The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Registration fee (covered by the school).
- Direction and tuition by two highly experienced actor/teachers - both of whom have received critical acclaim for their own work by major theatre reviewers throughout Australia.
- Two shows where you will perform in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Our weekly classes take place in Clifton Hill, Melbourne on Monday nights from 7.30pm - 9.45pm.
Our technical / dress rehearsals take place at our intimate theatre (which is very similar to LaMama Theatre, Carlton) in Kew, Melbourne.
Our shows also take place at this theatre in Kew.
This course is always very popular, so early registration is recommended. The course begins in early February 2017 and all the details are listed on the website link that is provided for you.
We enter The Melbourne International Comedy Festival as a Recreational Adult Drama class, so previous experience is not required. We structure the course so that it can integrate emerging actors, with and without experience. We will place you with scene partners of a similar level, and more experienced actors may elect to do an additional monologue (to be negotiated with teachers).
This is a possible opportunity for emerging actors to obtain agency representation, as you can invite them to see your work
When you reach the website link, it will give you all necessary information, however take the time to also visit the rest of our comprehensive website which will tell you all you need to know about the school.
