Stephen Quinn is a guitarist and guitar instructor based in East Ayrshire, playing and teaching in contemporary styles of rock, pop, blues and metal.
Stephen began playing guitar in 1996 at the age of 10, with early influences including Eric Clapton, The Beatles and Tom Petty. Over the years he has gathered a wider range of influences spanning from heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Metallica, to progressive outfits Dream Theater and Pink Floyd to guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen, and at the same time developing his ability as a guitarist.
Music has been the main focus of Stephen’s life since first picking up the guitar, having performed in local bands in the south west of Scotland and in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Notable events include Live and Unsigned 2010, Celtic Connections 2012, and opening for touring band Obsessive Compulsive. In 2010 Stephen graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelors Degree in Popular and Contemporary Music.
Stephen is currently performing in alternative rock duo Lil El, who have played various shows in Glasgow’s city centre.
Stephen is currently working in the Music Careers Mentoring Program (MCMP), an online course led by guitarist Tom Hess aimed to help aspiring artists develop solid careers in the music industry. Recently Stephen contributed an original composition titled 'Northern Lights' to the compilation CD 'The Gathering' comprising of fellow MCMP members.
